Poor, poor Lady.

Our sad little Lady-bug was spayed last week.  Needless to say it’s been an interesting time in our house since her surgery.

Lady is a lab puppy…how are you supposed to keep a lab puppy calm?  The vet said she’s not allow to run, jump, or play.  She’s not supposed to PLAY.

The vet gave us some interesting sedative pills to give her.  Sometimes they seem to work really well and she walks around like she’s drunk until eventually she just falls over.  Other times they seem to have the opposite effect.

Jock has been pretty great with her since her surgery last Tuesday.  When he first saw her in her cone he was afraid of the cone and ran from her…this didn’t help with the idea of trying to keep Lady calm.  Since then Jock has gradually gotten used to her new accessory and is trying to play with her again.  While it makes me happy that Jock is playing with her, at times it makes it more stressful because his favorite game is chase and she can’t do that still…but that hasn’t stopped her from trying.

She did pretty well after her surgery, until Friday night.  Friday night we went to Brad’s work holiday party.  We were only gone for a few hours but by the time we had returned home she had had an accident in her kennel.  Luckily it seemed like it had just happened and she didn’t get any on her, specifically her incision area.  We cleaned that up and got her settled again for bed.  We thought that was the end of it but unfortunately it was not.  After an uneasy night with Lady, I called the vet first thing Saturday morning and had to take her in.  Luckily I was able to successfully clean her up using baby wipes and her incision looked great.  They gave us some more meds to try to calm her tummy and we had to buy her special food again.  After about 30 minutes and more money than seems necessary we were on our way home with our pitiful puppy.

In hindsight, I really should have expected that she would have issues.  Lady is a sensitive little flower and seems to react to everything.  I’m really just glad that her incision still looks good and we’re not having issues with that.

We spent the rest of the weekend basically curled up on the couch.  It appears that she’s ok with being calm and hanging out if that means she can literally lay on top of me on the couch.  It was kind of ridiculous but I really couldn’t whine about it; she was pretty adorable.

We have about another week of babying the lil one.  She’s scheduled to have her sutures removed next Tuesday.  She’s definitely feeling better so I’m not entirely sure how well this week will go in terms of keeping her calm.

Poor Puppy 🙁
