This year for Valentine’s Day Brad and I had dinner at Ignite Kitchen in downtown Denver, kind of by Coors Field.  Neither of us had ever been there before and I’m not sure how Brad found this place but it was great!  It seems like it’s a fairly small place with a fairly simple menu but what we had really was great; we sat on the main floor in the bar area but there’s also an upstairs area with a patio that is supposed to have a great view.

They had a special menu that night which is also their menu for 5280 Restaurant Week.  It consisted of an appetizer, entree, and dessert for each person for only $25 each.

For the appetizers, Brad tried the “Man Candy” appetizer which was sugared bacon…it was incredible.  I’m not a huge bacon eater but there was definitely something special about this bacon; it was crispy, chewy, sweet, and spicy all at the same time.  I had the brussel sprouts which were good as well; they had a truffle soy glaze that gave them a nice twist.  We both had the same entree, their signature burger which was a burger with American cheese, 1000 Island dressing, onion, pickles, and tomatoes I think; I had the signature burger, plain with pickles on the side. 😉

The dessert deserves its own special space and category…it was incredible.  They offered two desserts and we had one of each to try them both: a blondie sundae and a s’mores concoction.  I stole the s’mores dessert and it honestly might be the best thing I’ve ever tasted.  It definitely didn’t look like much and I wasn’t overly excited when they brought it to the table but after having a single bite I was reluctant to let Brad have any of it.  It was a delicious brownie topped with marshmallow cream that was then torched and topped with graham cracker crumbs…it was soooooooo good.  I’m usually hesitant about brownies at restaurants because really nothing beats a good homemade brownie…but this was definitely an exception.  Writing about it I want to go back now just for the s’mores dessert…and maybe the “Man Candy”.

The staff at the restaurant was exceptional as well.  The service was great and everyone was super friendly and welcoming.  That night they were having drag queen bingo and they were setting it up while we were there.  It looked like a ton of fun and I kind of wish we had stayed for it but we would have had to waited another 30-45 minutes for it to start after we finished our meal and we just didn’t feel like waiting.  Apparently they do it once a month though so I hope we can make it sometime in the next couple of months.

I would definitely recommend this place if you’re looking for a good, simple meal in a great atmosphere with friendly service. 🙂
