Recently, Brad and I spent an evening at Uncorked Kitchen. They offer cooking classes where you go and learn how to make a meal and then get to enjoy eating it at the end of the night.
We had gone to an event there in the fall of 2016 when we had first started dating; I think it was Cuban night or something. Not really knowing what we were getting into I think our expectations weren’t quite met that first time. I will say that the mojitos that night were probably the best I’ve ever had; and the food was good, we just didn’t care for the cuisine. And I think we thought it would be more hands on than it was. It wasn’t a bad experience by any means, just kind of forgetful.
At the beginning of the year Brad got an email from them. It seemed that he actually had an unused credit with them from a couple of years ago that was going to expire at the beginning of February. We looked at their calendars and picked one that sounded like something we might enjoy.
The class we took was Cozy Winter Dinner and it was basically a 4 course dinner which consisted of: a winter squash appetizer, chicken marsala, pasta carbonara, and an apple crisp.
The way these classes work is that they teach you the techniques for preparing these dishes and then let you actually prepare them. The class that we went to was completely full and they broke us into groups of 6. Interestingly, our chef for this class was the same as our first class more than a year ago. She seems pretty personable and it was easy to ask her questions.
This was from the beginning of the class when she was starting to go over the techniques that we would be using.
These are time consuming classes. I believe ours was from 6-9 on a Thursday evening which meant we showed up hungry. Luckily they do put out snacks at the beginning: cheese, crackers, olives, and nuts. And they have a full bar so you can imbibe however you chose (depending on the class alcohol is included).
The first course was the winter squash and it was delicious. It was probably may favorite item from the whole evening.
The chicken marsala and pasta carbonara were great as well. It was probably the best chicken marsala I’ve ever had and I had never had pasta carbonara before this.
At the end of the night we received to a recipe packet covering everything we made that night. We even decided to try to recreate this meal for my parents and aunt for an early Valentine’s Day dinner; I’ll post the recipes, stories, and pictures of that this week.
